Giving Voice to a Fantasy

Ah, voices, voices, so hard to describe without falling into the snare of the dodgy simile. Like velvet? Liquid chocolate? Smoke over gravel? Fingernails screeching on a chalkboard?

When I'm describing a hero's voice, I often wish I could cut out the linguistic middleman and just say, 'Look, he sounded a lot like Alan Rickman, okay?'

Let's face it, not many heroes sound like Donald Duck. A deep voice, resonating from the chest, seems favourite, though a smooth purr is also good. Best of all, a foreign accent. Any foreign accent at all, but at the moment I'm leaning towards anything Eastern European.

What about you?
