A couple of weeks ago I saw this article in a local newspaper and it tickled my fancy. It's funny how we hear something over and over and mishear what is being said. Or in this case - sung. Yes, I'm talking about love songs. Those songs meant to inspire us, and to remind us of those we love and have loved and lost.
So how can we get it so wrong???
Don't these people know they are listening to love songs? Apparently not.
Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart's Sweet Dreams is often misintepreted as: "Sweet dreams are made of cheese / Who am I to disagree?” Does this mean they were selling dairy products? LOL
What about Rihanna "Finding Dove in a soapless place" ?
And my personal favourite - According to Spotify - Many people who saw the ADDICTED TO LOVE film clip with the vacant-eyed models playing around Robert Palmer thought “might as well face it, you’re a dick with a glove" LMAO!
Really? Really? People heard it as that? Okay, maybe they have a point. *snickers*
In Australia, many an argument can be heard about the words of Jimmy Barnes in Cold Chisel as he's singing that classic "Cheap wine and a three day goat" No - it's "Cheap wine and a three-legged goat". Truly ruly. All right, it's meant to be "Cheap wine and a three day growth"
And who can forget that other Aussie classic from Australian Crawl "Bewdiful pit-bull" I'm sure the beautiful people of the day didn't get it either!
(this from a band my dh used to play in back in the day...before they were famous!)
Paul McCartney is not averse to the nonsense lyric of course, but I'm pretty sure this isn't what he meant to sing in that gorgeous ballad Michelle "Michelle, ma belle / Some say monkeys play piano well / Play piano well"
OR DID HE?
